In the recent times the Ekpeye
kingdom has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. And the main theatre of
war was the Akoh clan. Following the spate of assassinations, kidnapping,
raping, destruction of properties by cultists in the area, there ensued an
atmosphere of trepidation and uncertainty as to the hope of the development of
the area in the face of these daunting challenge of insecurity. Obviously, it
amounts to a huge challenge to all concerned that would-be law abiding citizens
would rise up in arms to unleash such proportion of mayhem and agony on fellow
citizens, this is unprecedented as everyone was a potential victim, the small
and the big, the high and the low. Apparently, to most observers it seemed the
government was either feigning ignorance or handicapped and at a loss as what
should form the next approach to adopt in the combating this daunting challenge
confronting it.
However, through dogged aspiration
to ensure the return of peace and tranquillity
that would guarantee security and
create the recipe for even and uncommon development of the area, the wave of
criminality was brought to a halt. In this way, the Government of Rivers State
demonstrated wilfulness and commitment in securing the lives of the Ekpeye people,
to the Governor of Rivers State; EKPEYELIVESMATTERS, hence they applied the instrumentalities of conflict
negotiation and resolution to stem this rising tide of youth cult criminality
that was spreading across the entire gamut of the Ekpeye nation in the form of a wild inferno.
Today, to the delight of every Ekpeye indigene, following the declaring of the
amnesty by the Rivers State government, the elusive peace has returned to the
kingdom and once more the people that are acknowledged world over as the most
peace loving people are relishing and savouring a new atmosphere of security.
Thanks to the government of Rivers State under the leadership of its UKA-UME
NYISHI GOMET, His Excellency Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Executive
Governor of Rivers State.
While the Ekpeye people were yet
smarting off their new found atmosphere of peace and security other events that
gladdens the heart occurred. To set the stage for this season of goodwill in Ekpeyeland; was the outcome of the re-run elections in
Rivers State on 10th December 2016, for the first time in her
history, an Ekpeye sons was conclusively confirmed through the ballot a
distinguished member of the Senate of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is a laudable achievement and of no mean
measure. This success is in no small measure attributable to the astute
resolve, commitment, dexterity and doggedness of the Governor of Rivers State
who staunchly stood by Distinguished Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu and ensured
that his mandate was restored. This confirms the words of Billy Graham “ Courage is contagious, when a brave man
takes a stand the spines of others are stiffened”.
Penultimate last week, following
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s visit to Ihugbogo town in the Akoh clan of
Ekpeyeland, the heart of the Ekpeye people was further gladdened as he made
promises that are mouth watering, viz;
1. Rehabilitation
of the Odiokwu – Anwunugboko - Ubeta- Odiereke Road.
2. Construction
of Ahoada- Ekpena Road.
3. Reconstruction
of Edeoha- Ikata-Ochigba- Ozochi Road
4. Rehabilitation
of Ahoada- Odiemerenyi – Ihugbogo- Odieke Akoh road.
5. Renovation
of Western Ahoada County High School
6. The
elevation of the stool of Eze Igbu Akoh clan from 3rd to 2nd
class.
7. Donation of
a 30 - seater Coaster bus to the Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC)
This display of magnanimity by the
Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led administration is unprecedented in the democratic
experience of the Ekpeye nation. Ekpeye nation has not had it so good. The Governor’s
promises came as a huge surprise and of course, its echo could be felt
reverberating across the entire fabrics of Ekpeyeland in particular and the
State at large. By all ramifications, at
last the much anticipated dividend of democracy has been experienced by the
Ekpeye people and this obviously signals the beginning of a new era in the
development agenda of the Ekpeye nation. The Ekpeye people obviously and for
very specific reason(s) are indeed grateful for this kind gesture would
certainly be proud of Chief Barr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his magnanimity and would
therefore uphold their unflinching support and commitment to the ideals that
revolves round the NEW VISION of the Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led
administration in Rivers State since they have benefitted from it.
It would be acknowledged that the
2016 has been obviously a very difficult year for the Ekpeye people but with
the Governors New Year gift which he has already started redeeming certainly
2017 promised to be a better for the Ekpeye nation.
