Iceland Players in solidarity support with Nigeria’s Ikeme

In a show of solidarity the Iceland National team players currently at the world cup in Russia have paid tribute to ill Nigerian goalkeeper, Carl Onora Ikeme, Carl who is diagnosed with acute leukaemia could not feature for his country Nigeria at the mundial  due to his illness.

Iceland are scheduled to confront Carl Ikeme's team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, on Friday, 22nd of June 2018 in their second game of Group D at the ongoing 2018 World Cup in Russia.Ahead of the Nigeria clash with Iceland later this week the Reading striker and Ikeme's former teammate, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson posted a picture of members of the Iceland squad holding a team jersey with Ikeme's name and number (1) on the back.He further went to share his thoughts on Twitter: "All of us in @footballiceland are with you @Carl_Ikeme"Iceland drew one apiece with Argentina on Saturday will confront nigeria's Super Eagles at the Volgograd Arena on Friday for their group D second match.

Carl Ikeme who plies his trade as the safe hands at Wolverhamptons has been handed an honorary place in Nigeria’s World Cup squad as he continues to battle acute leukaemia. He played a very significant role in their qualification campaign before a series of “abnormal blood tests” during pre-season testing last year confirmed the 31-year-old’s diagnosis. Ikeme had been a first-team regular at Wolves for five seasons until his diagnosis. He has been at the club his entire career, making over 200 appearances in all competitions.
